Umbra

an opera-theater work on grief and transformation
created and composed by Elliot Menard

An opera-theater work exploring grief and transformation through the lesser-known parts of the Orpheus myth.

Composed for 5 treble voices, cello, flute, electronics, and piano (featuring windchimes and whirly tubes), Umbra’s libretto weaves excerpts of Ovid’s Metamorphoses with original poetry.
